Following a competitive selection process, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) announced that Ecuador has been selected to join its Executive Council. Ecuador was elected to the council over five other candidates in line for the position.

“Ecuador is honored to join this distinguished council toward the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism,” said Luis Falconi, vice minister of the Ministry of Tourism. “Conscious tourism is a guiding principle in Ecuador’s tourism industry, and we look forward to our continued collaboration with the innovators and visionaries of this organization.”

The Executive Council is the highest ranking body of the UNWTO and works with the General Assembly to implement its decisions and recommendations. The announcement was made during the 21st session of the UNWTO General Assembly, led by Secretary General Taleb Rifai. www.unwto.org
