The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has selected Tokyo as the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. Tokyo welcomed the Summer Olympics in 1964 and Japan facilitated two Winter Olympics in Sapporo (1972) and Nagano (1998).

Tokyo promises highly detailed planning, eco-friendly considerations and safety for the event. Japan’s capital city is planning a compact Olympics as 85 percent of the event venues will be arranged within a five-mile radius from the athlete village. This structure also concentrates related events and activities in the city center. Other eco-friendly considerations include reusing existing facilities, including the Tokyo International Forum, the Budokan arena and the National Olympic Stadium. www.japantravelinfo.com
