5 Ways to Savor a Mother and Daughter Vacation in Maui

The mother/daughter relationship is a precious one, and a vacation in Maui can enhance it all the more. Whether the gals want to share adventures or simply relax together in paradise, a one-on-one trip to the Valley Isle can bring them even closer while rewarding them with lifelong memories.

Here's a look at five fun mother/daughter Maui pastimes.

Adventure

Moms and daughters can try a new sport together, with options from tame to wild. Outfitters around the island offer beginning lessons in standup paddleboarding and surfing. Kayak and snorkel tours help duos explore the coastline. High-adrenaline outings include zip lining, parasailing and the isle’s newest activity: dropping down waterfalls with Rappel Maui.

Afternoon Tea

Raise your pinkies and pass the finger sandwiches. In an open-air lounge with piped-in Hawaiian music, Ritz-Carlton Kapalua’s high tea puts an island-style spin on the tradition of mid-afternoon snacks (call ahead for a reservation). For a less formal option, Ali’i Kula Lavender’s gift shop sells lavender tea and scones that twosomes can enjoy in the farm’s serene outdoor setting.

Maui Friday Town Parties

Each Friday night, one of Maui’s small towns turns into a street party for all ages. Moms and daughters can find souvenirs in the many shops that extend their hours for the occasion. They can also listen to live music and sample local food at mom-and-pop eateries on the sidewalks. Wailuku plays host on the first Friday, Lahaina on the second, Makawao on the third and Kihei on the fourth.

Shopping

No matter what the budget, moms and their girls have fun browsing and buying in Maui. The new Outlets of Maui in Lahaina features bargains at 35 name-brand retailers. The Shops at Wailea glimmers with 70 high-end boutiques plus live entertainment on Wednesdays. Whalers Village lures the ladies with resort, surf and aloha wear, skin care products and vacation essentials like flip flops and sunscreen.

Spa Time

Gals of any age can connect and unwind at Maui's resort spas. Grand Wailea’s Spa Grande can time child and teen spa experiences with adult treatments for moms. Beauty makeovers for two await at Hyatt Regency Maui’s Marilyn Monroe Spa Kamahao. Fairmont Kea Lani and Ritz-Carlton Kapalua can set up side-by-side manicures and pedicures, the perfect pampering during a mother/daughter vacation in Maui.
