A scan of recent resort spa news underscores the major impact of the natural and cultural environment on the island’s wellness facilities and practices. The following indulgences are currently making headlines, inviting clients to unwind Maui-style.

Four Seasons Resort Maui
Four Seasons Resort Maui is promoting its Wai-Vari spa treatment in time for the annual winter return of humpback whales to Maui’s waters. Floating weightlessly in the ocean in front of the hotel, guests relax with the nurturing hands of therapists who perform gentle stretching treatments.
“The feeling is primordial, being embraced by the ocean and hearing the song of the whales,” said Four Seasons Maui spa director Pat Makozak. www.fourseasons.com/maui
Every year, Grand Wailea’s Spa Grande creates a new farm-to-spa massage treatment. During 2013 it added the Alii Honey Steam Cocoon, harnessing the nutrients of the fresh, raw honey cultivated on the resort’s rooftop. A full-body mango exfoliation is followed by an application of raw honey over the entire body. Eucalyptus steam maximizes the treatment’s effect. The Hawaiian Herbal Steam Cocoon is also new this year and uses antioxidants from local plants. www.grandwailea.com
