The ship originally constructed as Crown Monarch for Crown Cruise Line in 1990 has been acquired and extensively refitted by VidantaWorld and relaunched as Elegant. VidantaWorld Voyages, marketed as an ultra-luxury sub-brand, will now operate the vessel — which once carried more than 600 passengers and now features a significantly reduced capacity of just 216 guests.
"From the beginning, our focus has been about redefining what luxury at sea could feel like,” said Ivan Chavez, executive vice president of Grupo Vidanta. “By dramatically reducing guest count, elevating service to near one-to-one levels, prioritizing space and building itineraries around longer stays and late departures, we’ve created a voyage that delivers the high-end experience and flexibility today’s luxury travelers are seeking.”

Elegant Design
The reimagined ship is described as an uncrowded “ultra-yacht” with a nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio for elevated service standards and abundant space. About one-third of all private accommodations are of the highest echelon with dedicated butlers. Select Governor’s and Presidential Suites offer an additional bathroom, with some featuring two full baths.
While Elegant’s original structure remains, all guest spaces have been entirely redesigned with a contemporary, residential-inspired aesthetic. Amenities include an expansive pool, four whirlpools, a sea-accessible marina deck with an inflatable platform, a Technogym-equipped fitness center and the Nel Vento Spa & Beauty Salon, which features four treatment rooms, a couples’ suite and separate saunas. Additional offerings include an updated casino with three gaming tables and 11 slot machines, social gathering spaces, retail shops and a fresh take on dining.

Casual cafes and snack venues dot the ship, while eight bar and lounge options and three restaurants are on offer for diners. Among the culinary options — departing from a traditional main dining room — are Montelimar for Mediterranean, Guo for Asian fusion and Flor de Agave for premium Mexican, in addition to Hivata Buffet.

Rounding out the watering holes and snack shops are a sports bar, a whisky lounge, the poolside Tlax, Solana Snacks & Bar, the Elegant Lounge and two Infinito Bars. Guests can also participate in “coffee with the captain” under the ship’s open bridge policy.
Entertainment
Unlike most small ships with pared down entertainment, Elegant is pulling out all the stops with a combination of theatrical dining, original stage productions, vaudeville shows and live music.
Leading the charge is “The Gilded Cage,” a 1920s speakeasy experience hosted in one of the ship’s restaurants. For $169 per person, guests are treated to a fresh take on the story of Jay Gatsby and Daisy (from the novel “The Great Gatsby”) paired with Prohibition-style cocktails and the talents of a jazz duo, a vocalist and other actor-animators.
Exclusive to the vessel are three original performances brought to life by a bilingual cast of singer-dancers. “The World of Wonder” is a musical tour of the Riviera Maya, Nashville, Italy, France and Seville, Spain. “Rock Pop Royalty” covers five decades of tunes, from the likes of Queen, Blondie, Adele and Coldplay; the show is further animated by audience-worn LED wristbands and video-mapped stage costumes. Finally, “Contemporary and Classical Fusion” blends songs by artists such as Lady Gaga and Beyonce with Vivaldi in a dramatic gothic setting.
Meanwhile, Theatre at Sea activations present vaudeville shows elsewhere, conveying the lives of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, shipboard sailers from the 1960s or even the art of travel photography. Plus, onboard celebrations infill with "Viva Latino Deck Party,” “The White Party,” a “Viva La Musica!” game show, a silent disco, DJ nights, violin performances and more.
Destinations
Elegant is currently sailing in the Mediterranean through Oct. 2, 2026, where it will return next May through September 2027. Featured seven-night itineraries are based on in-depth regional exploration rather than fast-paced port hopping, with routes including the French Riviera, the Spanish coast, Italian shores, the Azores and Portugal, and the Greek Islands and Adriatic Sea.
The line emphasizes overnight stays and late departures, as well as a slower rate of travel. On-demand tenders are available to guests looking to enjoy dinners on shore and experience destinations after regular port hours.
